Tips for Pairing Blinds and Curtains
Many people choose to pair blinds with curtains to enhance light control and privacy. It also provides your windows with a unique aesthetic and adds visual interest to your room. If you’re thinking about pairing up blinds and curtains, there are a few things you should know ahead of time.
It is best to choose your blinds before selecting curtains. This is because there are many more curtain options available than there are for blinds. Start with a basic solid and work from there. If your heart is set on blinds with a pattern, your curtains should be solid. Pairing two designs or prints can be visually overwhelming, especially in smaller rooms. Contrasting colors are always a good choice. Contrast can create a bold, striking look. Contrasting materials, such as wood blinds and sheer curtains, also look great and add texture to your space. You must also take your furniture into consideration. If your furniture has a busy print, you may want to stick with solids for both your curtains and blinds.
Hang your curtains above your blinds and higher than the window. This technique makes your windows appear more prominent, which in turn makes the room appear larger, as well. The hardware you choose also needs to complement both window treatments. Cool-colored window coverings should have silver-hued hardware, and warm colors look great with gold or copper. This subtle touch can make a big difference in the overall aesthetic of the room. You also want your window coverings to match the decor of the rest of the room, but don’t use the same curtains throughout your home. You want your windows to create a comforting atmosphere in each room, and most rooms have a different ambiance.
Pairing curtains with blinds increase climate control in a room. You can shut both window treatments to maintain the interior temperature or open them if you want a breeze. Two window treatments also give you more light and privacy control. You can open the curtains and tilt the slats of the blind to enjoy natural light without giving up your privacy. When complete darkness is desired, you won’t have to worry about light shining through the gaps between slats in the blinds. Simply draw the curtains closed and enjoy the peace and quiet of the night.
